Born to Nightshiver, Eaglekit was her firstborn of this litter and named for an honorable, powerful creature. He was always more stoic than his siblings, often taking on the role of the 'mature' guardian figure or protector. Yet a soft spot always opened up, especially for his siblings that he considered more vulnerable, like Iriskit and Sunnykit. They always loved to prod him for his moodiness.However, each sibling—one by one—started to disappear for various reasons. One became sick and was hardly seen outside of the medicine den; one was snatched in the night; most fizzled out, as if they'd disappeared without a trace. Eagle, who had donned himself with the responsibility of their protector, felt as if he had failed. How could he let them go? If he'd been more vigilant, could he have prevented this?Most devastating to his psyche, Nightshiver eventually passed of old age and a weakness that had never quite recovered from her latest kitting. His mother had been special to Eages, so losing her was like losing a moral compass and part of his heart. He became even more reserved and broody after this, often taking night walks under the cold moon to 'search' for whispers of his mother or his siblings.When he was apprenticed under Hawkbite, his father, Eaglepaw strove to make him proud. Despite his diligence and intense focus, he failed in his first battle when ThunderClan raided them; a warrior by the name of Tigerspring easily overpowered him, carving a scar that ran through his left eye. Miraculously, Eages' left eye was not blinded, but the mark remained. It is a constant reminder of his weakness and failure to him every time he sees his reflection. Even worse, his father was killed during this by Spiderstar right in front of him; how could Eaglepaw hope to take revenge when he couldn't win a battle against an ordinary warrior? Thankfully, Hawkbite ended up coming back by StarClan's intervention, but the scar of that trauma remained.During his apprenticeship, however, he created long-lasting bonds. Despite his own reservedness, Flarespark—a rather shameless extrovert—practically took in Eaglepaw as one of his best friends from the start at an event. After that, the two grew close, a surprisingly fitting pair despite their opposite personalities. Eaglepaw also began to grow closer to his half-siblings, most notably with Thistlepaw and Badgerpaw; the four of them created a 'Council', even sharing a large nest in the apprentices' den. For a cat who'd become rather lonely, it was a strange but welcome sense of belonging, even if he pretended to only tolerate it.When ShadowClan conducted its revenge raid on ThunderClan, he moved in a vicious group with the Council, attacking Flarestar and even assisting in killing a ThunderClanner. Eages feels conflicted by this death, given that he hadn't realized how ending a cat's life would feel until it happened; he hadn't delivered the final blow, but he'd helped in knocking the cat over and weakening them for death. He carries the secret of his shame with him, given that his other friends seemed perfectly fine with it; was he weak at heart for feeling this?Eventually, Eaglepaw would pass his assessment and be granted the name Eaglenight in honor of his mother. Nightshiver appeared at this ceremony, sharing a beautiful, vulnerable moment with her son and Robinpaw, the last of the siblings who'd managed to stay. She called Eaglenight 'kind' and said she was proud of him, something he still reels from to this day. How could he be, after everything? Especially that battle? Still, her appearance had lifted his spirits, allowing him to perk up a bit in his current relationships. He remains close to Hawkbite, only wishing to continue making him proud.One night, he stumbled into a strange, happy-go-lucky cat named Starlight in one of his dreams. It wasn't the usual nightmares of ghosts and shadows, of his family slipping away where he could never reach; she actually spoke kindly to him and made flowers grow in the place, as if it wasn't full of withered, conflicted growth. Eages hasn't seen much of her since, but that experience has stayed with him, wondering if he'd find that she-cat again someday.At another event, when Rookfire taught a group how to swim, Eaglenight discovered a love and natural affinity for it. Though Badgerblaze and Flarespark had witnessed him learning this skill all too quickly, he mostly keeps this to himself, going for private swims when he can't sleep or in his free time. He finds it... oddly soothing in a way few other things are.
